About this sign

A large landscape sign stating that approved personal protective equipment must be worn at all times. The wording leaves no gaps, covering every hour spent in the area, and it suits a site gate or a large entrance where several types of PPE apply.

Fix it at the main entrance to the working area, where the larger lettering can be read as people approach. Combine it with symbol signs showing the specific equipment needed in that area.

Sizes and approximate viewing distance

  • 400 x 300 mm: readable at up to about 15 m
  • 600 x 450 mm: readable at up to about 23 m
  • 800 x 600 mm: readable at up to about 31 m

Printed in-house in the UK on self adhesive vinyl. Peel and stick to a clean, dry, flat surface. Check wording and placement against your own risk assessment before ordering.

Which regulation requires it

Health and Safety (Safety Signs and Signals) Regulations 1996. Employers must provide a safety sign where a significant risk cannot be avoided or controlled by other means, must keep signs maintained, and must make sure staff understand what an unfamiliar sign means and what to do about it. HSE guidance L64 sets out the detail. Signs are not a substitute for engineering controls or a safe system of work.

General guidance, not legal advice. Whether a given sign is required at your premises depends on your own risk assessment.
